More money for new homes. The BBC reports that the Budget on Wednesday (28 October) will include more than £1bn for social and affordable housing in England. This takes the government's 10-year homes programme past £40bn. Councils will also get help to borrow money to build homes.
Interest rates could go up soon. The Bank of England's Bank Rate is 3.75% today. Its next decision is on 5 November, and a rise is now widely expected (Mortgage Soup). Nationwide's house price figures are also due on Friday. Rates can change quickly, so if your mortgage deal ends soon, it's worth getting advice early.
